Suspect's Handgun Recovered at the Scene

On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Long Beach Police were dispatched to
the area of Studebaker Road and East Spring Street regarding a person with a gun call and shots
fired that resulted in an officer involved shooting
Long Beach Police Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin their extensive
investigation At this time, the preliminary investigation revealed the following
· A male adult and a female adult who are boyfriend and girlfriend were involved in an ongoing
argument.
As he left a residence and was nearing the intersection of Studebaker Road and East Spring Street
in a vehicle, the female who had left prior to him, fired several shots in his direction.
· The victim who was not struck by gunfire, escaped, and called police.
· Officers who were in the area arrived at this crime in progress within a few minutes.
The victim flagged down the officers and directed them to the area where the suspect was last

· The officers quickly located the armed female suspect. They shouted multiple commands to drop
the handgun but the suspect refused to comply with their lawful orders, pointed a handgun at the
officers, and the officer involved shooting occurred.
· Officers immediately administered life saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department
personnel arrived.
Fire personnel determined the suspect deceased at the scene
· The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene (see photo)
· No officers or other parties were injured.
· There are no outstanding suspects involved in this incident.
The suspect is not being identified at this time. The Los Angeles County Coroner will make positive
identification and notify next of kin.
The Police Department thoroughly reviews all use of force incidents through a rigorous multi step
process that evaluates legal, policy, tactical, and equipment issues. Additionally, the Los Angeles
County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as
they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or
death
