Memorandum
The Assistant Chief is appointed by the Chief of Police and is confirmed by the City
Manager. The Assistant Chief is responsible for department operations and other
responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Police. In the absence of the Chief,
the Assistant Chief will act on behalf of the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police
maintains the discretion to delegate any duties and authority of the Chief Executive
Officer, including those outlined in the Long Beach Police Department Manual, to
the Assistant Chief of Police.
The special order will remain in effect until Manual Section 2.3.1. ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE has been created.
