Incident Summary
Dispatch:
Officers responded to a call for service of a dispute involving a family member.
Forced Used:
Officers encountered the suspect who is a known Barrio Probe gang member. The suspect appeared to be under the
influence of an unknown substance. The suspect refused to comply with lawful orders, and took a fighting stance with
officers. The ECD was deployed for two cycles.
Injuries:
No officers were injured. The suspect sustained minor facial abrasions that were consistent with the force used, and two
ECD probe punctures. The suspect was transported by LBFD to St. Mary's Hospital.
Videos/Photographs:
No video of the use of force was located. Photographs of the scene were taken by Officer Stein. Officer Nguyen took
photographs the suspect and video recorded the suspect's erratic behavior. A copy of the video was sent to Internal
Affairs via inter-office mail.
Statements:
Due to the suspect's impairment, no interview or statements were obtained.
Conclusion:
Based on my investigation, the force used was reasonable and within policy.
Notifications:
Due to the minor facial injuries caused by the force used, Sergeant B. Johnson from Internal Affairs was notified, and
responded to the hospital.
Watch Commander Lieutenant S. Lauricella was notified.
