Marschke # 11002 arrested a driver in possession of a stolen vehicle, later identified as Suspect Jose Mora. As she was placing Mora into the backseat of her patrol vehicle, Mora pulled away from her grip and fled on foot. Force Used: Officer D.Gibson # 10931 and Officer J. Vandemoortel # 10920 were on scene assisting Officer Marschke. As Mora fled, the officers gave chase. Officer Gibson caught up to Mora and reached for Mora's left arm to prevent his escape. Mora fell to the ground and was taken into custody without force. Injuries: Mora struck his head on the ground during the foot pursuit. Mora was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center where he received eleven sutures for a laceration to his right forehead area and two sutures for a laceration above his left eye. Photographs/Videos: Officer Vandemoortel and Officer Nguyenlieu took photographs of the scene, involved officer and Mora's injuries. There was no video of the incident. Statements: I interviewed Mora. I digitally recorded my interview and uploaded it into Mideo. Body Worn Camera Summary/Comments: No BWC. Hospitalization: No. Conclusion/Actions: In my opinion Officer Gibson's actions were reasonable, effective and within policy. I verbally counseled Officer Marschke about the safe handling and proper control of prisoners. Notifications: Watch Commander Lt. Prieto was notified of the use of force. Internal Affairs Detective D. Mendoza was notified of the incident and responded.
